REACH Update: ECHA Publishes June 2025 Changes

Overview

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) oversees the European Union’s REACH regulation, which aims to protect human health and the environment. REACH applies to all chemical substances, not just those used in industrial settings, and affects most companies operating within the EU. It establishes a framework for collecting and assessing data on the hazards of chemical substances. Based on that assessment, substances are either added to the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) list or, if their risks are deemed unmanageable, placed on the restricted list. ECHA reviews and updates the SVHC list every six months.

REACH June 2025 Update: What to Expect

The ECHA has submitted three new substances to REACH’s SVHC list for the second update of 2025. This brings the SVHC list up from 247 to 250 substances. Manufacturers and importers must declare SVHC content above the limit of 0.1% weight by weight in all articles, which includes the SCIP notifications. You can find the complete SVHC list at the ECHA website here. These are the six new substances along with the reason for inclusion on the SVHC list and their common uses:

Z2Data Analysis of REACH SVHC Substances – June 2025 Update

Analysis of the Z2Data database for parts with full material disclosures revealed no parts that relate to any of the new substances of very high concern. While these SVHC’s may have a low impact on the electronics industry, it is important to note that their application may be pertinent to non-electronic based materials such as packaging, coatings or sealants. It’s important to identify the presence of substances in all aspects of your product.
